uicide would be a way of life. If you was me , you?d
kill you.? (Proof)Before I start talking about D12?s gifted Mc Proof,
I would like to thank and to give credit to the webmaster of the following
Derty Harry website for the rare info I found about Deshaun Holton aka
Derty Harry aka Proof:http://angelfire.com/bxc3/dertyharry/main_bio.htmlDeshaun
Holton aka Proof was born on October the 2nd 1975 in Detroit.Although
they didn?t attend the same High School, Eminem and Proof have been
friends since 1988. They used to live in the same street in Detroit.Proof
used to go to Osbourne High school while Eminem was attending Lincoln
High. Both friends used to skip high school in order to rap together:
in fact Eminem skipped Lincoln High and used to come to Proof?s school
very often, because both friends wanted to rap together. This is how
they met:?I was skipping school, and he was skipping school also, passing
out flyers for his concert he was having in Centerline. That had to
be, like, '88 or something.? (Proof)Some (white) underground Mcs from
Detroit like Backstab the Kingpin are convinced of Proof?s racism. But
Deshaun?s statements seem to prove the contrary. CDNow has asked Proof
how he felt about Eminem?s skin color at the time they met:CDNow: Did
you wonder what this blond, white kid was up to? Proof: ?You know, I
went to Catholic school and had a great, great friend of mine who happened
to be Irish; we were best friends since the sixth grade. So when I saw
[Eminem] was white, I didn't even jump off like that; when he rapped,
he was dope. What made us get dope and become great friends was we both
rhymed "first place" and "birthday," and we've been tight ever since
[laughs].?Eminem and Proof have been real friends since the beginning.
When Eminem was kicked out of his home, he would sleep at Proof?s house. It
is well known that Proof is an amazing freestyler. He won the freestyling
competition in the Source magazine in 1999. He his a better freestyler
than Marshall, but Marshall?s force is in the way he handles his words
in his lyrics. That?s exactly what Proof states about their complementary
talent:?We were both impressed with each other. The advantage I've got
over Em is freestyling; I'm the kind of guy who freestyles off the head,
right? The advantage he had over me was that he knew how to write intricately;
he knew how to put a song together and bring feelings about. That's
why I journeyed under him, like, "Yo, show me the ropes, homeboy." The
idea of the D12 group composed of talented MCs and sick aliases with
popped into Proof?s mind:"I was in New York; I had this deal with Tommy
Boy that didn't work out, unfortunately. But I just had this idea that
we could put together a team of dope MCs, put a lot of Detroit on as
far as having MCs with skills. Everybody's solo took so we'll make aliases,
like Eminem's Slim Shady and I'm Derty Harry, and call it the Dirty
Dozen -- and at this time, to be honest with you, we thought The Dirty
Dozen was a Western movie; we didn't know it was an army movie [laughs].
That fits us, army rather than Western, 'cause we see ourselves more
as gun-slingers, lyric-slingers. Then the idea was to form a pact whereas
this team, whoever gets out first comes back and gets the rest of the
group."Proof has always been confident in Eminem?s loyalty, even if
some other members of the group may have been worried:?Not me; I've
been there since day one, almost. I think the rest of the group may
not have been there, but Proof has been beside Eminem all this time.
I play a leadership role in the group, where I talk to everyone else;
Em is like the president, and I'm the general. I talk to the rest of
the fellas and put 'em in line and show 'em the direction. It's a family,
too, so there'll be a lot of fighting and bickering, and some people
might have felt it might not be the way it should be. So, yes, there
were times when people felt funny about things. But now everybody thinks
back to that, and we were tripping out over nothing.?Acccording to Proof,
Eminem?s success was the best thing that could have happened to D12:?Right.
Some people look at us like, "You're gonna be Eminem's group. You're
gonna be in his shadow." They don't realize how positive and great that
is to hear; if you're in the shadow of a guy who can sell almost 10
million records in just the states alone, great. That's not a dis to
us. But when they hear the album, they hear the individuality of each
person, how everybody holds their own.?It is so true that each D12 emcee
has his own talent and ability to rap.It is less known that Proof?s
first stage name was ?Maximum?. Proof has always been appreciated in
Detroit for his raps and his freestyling qualities. He changed his nickname
when people started calling him ?Living Proof?, because in many people?s
minds, Proof was the ?living proof of the living MCs in Detroit".Proof
has collaborated and still collaborates with numerous artists such as
Dogmatic.Proof?s first released Cd was called ?From Death? and was co-produced
with Da Goon Squad. He has released a CD called ?Promatic? with Dogmatic
and a six Track solo EP called ?The Search For Jerry Garcia?.As well
as for Eminem, Detroit has been very influencial to Proof who describes
his hometown as ?the type of place where eye contact can get you killed?
and also as ? a city where the sun never shines, full of pot holes,
snow and con artists ready to jack everything you got?.
Three battles at the end of the 8 Mile movie made Jimmy Smith aka B.
Rabbit a reputation in the rap arena. A real challenge for Jimmy Smith
who was left with no voice at the beginning of the movie: a typical
case of stage fright.
The MP3 movement started out with a huge audience of music enthusiasts

to have, a huge impart on how people, gather, listen to and share music.
Eminem?s roots can be found in Scandinavia through his mother Debbie
Nelson and in South Wales through his father Marshall Bruce Mathers
II.But Eminem has mostly Scottish blood running through his veins. On
both sides( maternal and paternal sides), Scottish roots can be found.Back
to the 7 th generation on the paternal side, Peter Mathers from Pennsylvania
married a Scottish woman named Isabella (last name unknown). On the
maternal side, Scottish roots can be found in Marshall?s family in the
6 th generation : Ailsa Mc Allister from Edingburgh emigrated to the
United States ?precisely to New York in 1870.Most of the Mathers have
been working as farmers in the state of Missouri.Marshall Mathers I,
Eminem?s paternal grandfather has been working as an assistant hotel
manager at Plainsman Hotel in st Joseph Missouri and his wife Rae has
been employed at Del Cornonado hotel in guest services. When Eminem?s
paternal grandmother Rae died recently in 2002 from an Alzheimer desease
, Marshall Mathers II discovered interesting documents related to his
famous son like a Christmas card from Marshall addressed to his grandmother
Rae.Ethymology of the name MathersMathers means mower or reaper.History
of the name MathersThe name Mathers is related to the Scottish Barclay
clan. The family Barclay settled down in a place called Mathers in Scotland
in the 13 th century. The history of the Mathers goes back to an english
immigrant Theobald de Berkeley and his son who owned the estate of Mathers.
Alexander was the first to use the surname Mathers.Pronounciation of
the surname MathersIt is commonly admitted that the surname Mathers
is pronounced as if there was an y in the middle of the name : Ma(y)thers
.If you want to know more about the history and genealogy of the family
Mathers, you can find some interesting info here :homepage.ntlworld.com/davepalmer/eminem/credits.htmI?d
like to thank the people who made up this interesting website. I discovered
a lot of info about Marshall?s paternal side. I have a lot of info about
his maternal side, so I hope to be able to complete his family tree
as soon as possible.
Motorhead-"Inferno"-Review by Les Lewellyn When David Grohl of Nirvana
and Foo Fighters fame release the sensational CD "Probot" this year
it rekindled my metal tastebuds. For those of you not familiar with
his project I'll explain. He recorded songs on which he played all instruments
and he had guest vocalists come in and sing as well as write the lyrics
and play whatever instrument they might also play. The cd features vocalists
such as King Diamond, Snake from Voivod, and many other great singers/musicians.
The whole cd flows like it was a gift from God or at least the Heavy
Metal God. On that cd Lemmy from Motorhead does a fantastic job on the
tune "Shake Your Blood". On first listen I was excited to hear Lemmy
singing on such a awesome tune and the excitement was enough for me
to do some google searching and that is where I found out that the boys
were back and had a new CD released on the indie label Sanctuary entitled
"Inferno". Like Monster Magnet, being on an indie has enhanced their
sound big time! Always a rough and tough rocking band, Motorhead has
never rocked like they do on this CD. What's amazing is how great Lemmy's
vocals sound. I have loved the band since their beginning and my fondness
for Lemmy dates back to his Hawkwind days. I have to say I have enjoyed
Motorhead whenever I've bought a cd and listened. But NEVER have I been
entrapped into their sound like I am today. The opening song, "Terminal
Show", features Steve Vai on guitar. I have to admit even though I'm
a guitarist I respect Steve Vai but I just can't get into the instrumental
cds he's released. Actually, I dig them I just don't find myself playing
them very often. But Steve takes hold of "Terminal Show" and sounds
like he's in the band. He refrains from overplaying his part and he
fits Motorhead like a glove. Philip Campbell, Motorhead's guitarist,
allows Steve Vai to play with no conflicts and it's sweet as honey!
But Philip Campbell then goes on to play lead on all the rest of the
tunes like a banshee in heat except the end of "Down On Me" on which
Steve Vai returns. What's cool about this is the fact that the two tunes
on which Steve Vai plays guitar are not necessarily the best on the
cd. It's a seemless collection of tunes that will rock the toughest
crowd. I can only imagine how great they sound live and I can't wait
to catch them on their current tour. Mikkey Dee returns on drums and
this cat pounds the hell out of them. Lemmy attacks the bass like a
maniac and his vocals are his best to date. The cd never gets politcal
but it does paint a dim look at life in these troubled times. It's really
kind of creepy how convincing Lemmy sounds on the tune "Killers". Obviously
the dude is fascinated with murder because he sings three tunes about
the topic. I'm glad he's got his bass and band to keep him busy!!!!
I know I claimed Monster Magnet have the best cd this year but I have
to say that Motorhead are coming in with a tie at least! "Inferno" is
a must buy cd for any hard rock fan. From start to finish the album
soars past and demands repeated plays. I am sure that Motorhead's old
fans will freak out over this cd and also they've created a cd that
will hopefully get them some new young fans. Visit their site at http://www.imotorhead.com Buy

Music licensing can be a very confusing subject. My intent with this
article is to give you enough details on what music licensing is and
what are your rights to use music in advertising and / or video productions.
A few months ago I was contacted by a company that was celebrating
20 years in business. They wanted to put together a radio commercial
that highlighted their celebration. Their request was to use Kool and
the Gangs song Celebration in their radio spot. I explained to them
in order to do this they would have to obtain a licensing which would
cost them quite a bit of money. This was not an option for them due
to their limited budget and ultimately they told me that they ?went
another direction? with their advertising. If I had agreed to use
this song without obtaining a licensing I would have put both of our
companies at risk. It was not worth the risk just to make a sale. Beware
that there are unscrupulous production companies that will do this type
of illegal activity so the best protection you have is knowledge.
The copyright law protects writers of music by giving them exclusive
right to their music. Once a piece of music is under copyright protection
it is illegal to use it without getting permission to the owner of the
copyright. There are actually two types of copyrights in the United
States. One is the actual copyright which is denoted with the familiar
C with a circle around it. This protection is for the actual melody,
lyrics and arrangement of the music. The copyright is usually owned
by the actual artist that wrote the piece or their publishing company.
The second form of copyright is the actual recording itself. This
is denoted by a P with a circle around it. This protection covers the
performance of the song caught on tape or digital media and released
on CD or other media. Many times a record or production company will
own this performance right. If you want to use a song in a production,
you need obtain a Master Use license from the owner of the copyright
and a Synchronization license (often called a sync license) from the
owner of the performance of the song. The fees for synchronization
licenses vary greatly. Low-end TV usage (music is playing from car radio
in a scene) can cost up to $2,000. In a film, the fee may be as high
as $10,000. A popular song is worth more, possibly $3,000 for TV and
$25,000 for film. A song used as the theme song for a film might get
$50,000 to $75,000. Commercials can get even more money. Fees for a
popular song can range from $25,000 to $500,000 plus per year. The typical
range for a well-known song is $75,000 to $200,000 for a one year national
usage in the United States on television and radio. I think you will
agree with me that that is allot of money and usually way over budget
for many video and radio productions. To get around these outrageous
fees, music production companies sell buyout music. When you purchase
a buyout CD you do not need to obtain a licensing to use the music.
You can use the music hassle free and at a much lower cost. Buyout
music or royalty-free, as it applies to my products, means that for
your one-time purchase price, you can legally use the music in your
productions for life of ownership. All copyrights of the music remain
with Zebra Music LLC. My jingle licensing agreement allows a protected
area of 200 miles. By doing this no other companies in a local market
will have the same jingle. Many other production companies offer a
similar buy out music licensing. I would advise you to read the licensing
agreements with other production companies and ask questions if you
have concerns. Network broadcast and international broadcast of buyout
production music is cleared through a performance organization (like
BMI or ASCAP). The revenue that these songs produce when they are aired
is paid directly from broadcast station licensing, NOT from you as a
producer. These performance organizations then in turn pay each artist
based on the amount their song or songs were aired on the radio or TV.
I hope this article has cleared up any confusion or questions that
you have had about copyright and music licensing.
Welcome to the wonderful world of music. As you begin reading this Music
Mini Course it is fun to realize that you are also participating in
a very important cultural aspect from around the world which has been
going on for centuries. Did you know that pianos in some form have been
around for over 500 years? Some of the first instruments of this kind
were created in the late Medieval Period and were called clavichords.
They had a very light, metallic sound because the small hand-pounded
'hammers' were made of very light weight metal-like material. These
hammers struck strings of varying lengths to create different tones
or pitches. The next cousin to the clavichord was the harpsichord invented
by Cristofori in Italy around 1450 A.D. This keyboard instrument had
a mechanism in it called the plecktrum which 'plucked' the strings and
produced a slightly stronger sound than its predecessor. Whether you
are playing an acoustic instrument, which is the closest relative to
the history just mentioned, or an electronic keyboard, you are now participating
in a centuries old musical art form.
What is it with these performers and their politics? Do they really
think that people who pay $100 or more to hear them sing want to hear
them utter political opinions? The audience pays hundreds of thousands
of dollars to see and hear a performer PERFORM. You want to spout politics,
run for freakin office, you moron! When performers use a paid venue
to play politics they are abusing the paying audience, the venue, the
sponsors and everyone connected to their artistic performance. It's
an inappropriate venue and inapproprite behavior to voice your political
viewpoint, you jerk! And they wonder why people boo.
Discover the phenomenonal complexity of music and reflect on the way
it can positively influence your life with this sound collection of
riveting quotes...
Most of the guitar lovers playing guitar for few years but still unsatisfied
with their progress. They feel like still stand at the starting point
and can't enjoy their playing. This mainly caused by most of them don't
build up a strong foundation at the begining. I found that some of the
guitar learners even just playing guitar for one to two years but are
more better than so many that playing for over five years. This is the
foundation problems. Me myself was an example when I started playing
guitar long time ago.
Why do you care about stringing your guitar you may ask. Well the reason
is simple. It will make you sound better because if your guitar is properly
strung, you will get longer natural sustain.
I met New York jazzman Tim Armacost in college almost 25 years ago,
at a time when we were both grappling not only with what careers we
ought to pursue, but with what kind of adults we wanted to become. Tim
comes from an illustrious family, boasting more than its fair share
of bank presidents, ambassadors and college presidents. I would not
have been surprised if he had gone into finance, diplomacy, or academia.
And yet, with seemingly limitless professional options open to him,
Tim chose a more modest path ? that of the jazz musician. For two decades
he?s been traveling the globe, pursuing his career as a professional
tenor saxophonist, in such exotic locations as Amsterdam, Delhi, and
Tokyo. His albums, including Live at Smalls and The Wishing Well, have
received high praise from the Washington Post and Jazz Times. Fluent
in Japanese, Tim is also a longtime student of Zen Buddhism; his meditation
practice infuses his music and contributes strongly to his relaxed yet
passionate performance style.
How
Many Guitar Chords Do I Need To Know?
Guitar chords, (chords played specifically on a guitar,) differ only
from other types of chords by virtue of instrument; they're simply a
series of three or more notes played together. These notes don't necessarily
have to be played simultaneously, however.
Your
First Guitar
Congratulations, you just bought you first guitar! Now that you've met
the love of your life and made that big commitment, you're probably
excited about building a good relationship with your new partner. But
where do you begin? You've just come home from the music store with
this beautiful, mysterious stranger, or perhaps even rescued an abandoned
orphan from the flee market or pawn shop. Cradling it lovingly in your
hands, you admire it's graceful form and captivating voice.
How
to Improvise Using a Few Chords
When a painter is getting ready to paint, a color palette is usually
chosen first. For example, if a forest is to be painted, the artist
may choose browns, greens, and blues for the sky. Once the palette is
chosen, it makes it easier to create the painting. Why? Because color
decisions are now out of the way.

12
Reasons You Should Learn to Play the Piano
All right, folks, here you go: My 12 reasons why you should start learning
how to play the piano. Immediately. As in today. This very minute.
Piano
Lessons Can be Fun!
There are essentially two ways to learn piano - note reading or chords.
For those who want to spend years learning how to play other peoples
music, note reading is the way to go.
Do
you really need college to learn to play music?
Music courses are a great way to learn about virtually any area of music;
history, theory, and musical instrument instruction -- you name it and
somewhere music courses specialize in it. Though generally found through
colleges, universities or high school programs, music courses are also
offered via one-on-one instruction with a private teacher or community-based
workshops. Some churches even offer music courses as a complement to
their choirs; the music courses may be offered to the general public,
but they're often geared toward the choir members and congregation.
New
Age Piano Tricks
One of the things that makes New Age piano so enjoyable is that it's
easy to get started.
Formal
Highland Attire: The Correct Wearing of the Kilt; the National Dress
of Scotland
We don't simply wear a theatrical costume; we wear the national dress
of Scotland. While some people might think that any proposed definition
of what is "correct" in traditional Highland dress is in some way a
gross infringement of their right to express their individuality, others
may be interested to know just what the standards are, even if they
choose to exhibit variations on the theme. Voluntarily observing the
rule and custom of the Scots in the matter of dress is one way to strengthen
and to reinforce the genuine and traditional of the Highland culture
that we claim to celebrate.
Sheet
Music ? Violin and Other String Instruments
The violin is a bowed stringed instrument and is the highest pitched
member of the violin family. It sits along side its cousins ? the other
members of the violin family - the viola, cello, and double bass. The
bow of the violin is a narrow, slightly incurved stick of Pernambuco
about 75 cm long, with a band of horsehair stretched from end to end
of the bowstick. The violin has four strings tuned a fifth apart, to
the notes g, d', a', e'': On early violins the strings were of pure
gut. Today they may be of gut, gut wound with aluminum or silver, steel,
or perlon.
Greg
Koch Fender Guitar History
The Greg Koch Fender guitar began to take shape all the way back when
Greg Koch was in the third grade. Greg cut out cardboard Fender Stratocaster
guitars, then Koch used his sisters sewing machine pedal as a wah-wah.
By watching, listening and copying what he heard on records he was able
to advance quickly.

How
To Write A Song
Did you ever wish that it was your song playing on the radio? It could
be. It is not that hard once you know the formula. With a little creativity,
a little knowledge, a little luck and a good formula to follow, your
song could be one of the next biggest hits. Songwriting comes easy for
some, and is very difficult for others. I have actually written songs
in my sleep, and immediately upon awaking, written it as quickly as
I could get the words on down on paper. What I want to discuss here
is popular songwriting, like the songs you hear on the radio. A good
pop song, whether rock, country, middle of the road, is composed of
two things: a catchy tune and some good lyrics. There is a formula that
most great songwriters use to write great songs. It regards the structure
used to write a song. Granted, it is music and it is art, so the rules
are not hard and fast. But if you want to increase your chances of getting
your song on the radio, it is a good starting point. Here is the formula.
Verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus. Write that down on paper
leaving plenty of space between each word and this will be your script.
Verse The verse is the part of the song that tells the story, the part
that leads to the chorus. Each verse is usually different, telling a
different part of, or adding to, the story. It usually explains how
you got to the things you are singing about in the chorus. Chorus. The
chorus is the part of the song that is repeated after each verse. The
lyrics are usually the same each time the chorus comes around. The verse
usually leads to the chorus, and the chorus is usually the pay off for
listening to the verse. Does that make sense? Here is a lame example
(you did not think I would give you my best work, did you?): (verse)
My dog is sick, he's got a tick He's my best friend, don't let it end
(chorus) Oh, woe is me, can't you see Woe is me, will I ever be free
(verse) My car broke down, just out of town It got towed in, but it's
broke again (chorus) Oh, woe is me, can't you see Woe is me, will I
ever be free Now, if you would kindly stop laughing at my lame song
for a minute, I want you to think about whether or not you understand
my point. Songwriting is story telling. The verse tells the problems,
the chorus expresses the results or the emotions. All right, now that
you have that mastered, let's tackle the bridge. Ah, yeah, there is
more to the song than the pain and the release. We need the diversion.
That is what the bridge is; it is the diversion from the verse and the
chorus. The bridge may have a slightly different melody to it, or it
could even have a different rhythm or a different tempo (Elvis' "Suspicious
Minds" did a great job on this technique). Let's go back to the lame
song and add a bridge: (verse) My dog is sick, he's got a tick He's
my best friend, don't let it end (chorus) Oh, woe is me, can't you see
Woe is me, will I ever be free (verse) My car broke down, just out of
town It got towed in, but it's broke again (chorus) Oh, woe is me, can't
you see Woe is me, will I ever be free (bridge) Tomorrow is a better
day, I've got a new truck on the way My dog just had a flea it seems,
so once again I'll live my dreams (chorus) Oh, woe was me, can't you
see Woe was me, but now I'm free The bridge offers a solution to the
problems I was having. You don't want to leave your listener on the
edge of suicide, you want to give them hope. Notice, I also changed
up the wording of the chorus. This was done to reflect my new found
joy. One more thing on formula. It can be anyway you want, but most
verses and chorus come in lines of 4. So, instead of this: (verse) Oh,
woe is me, can't you see Woe is me, will I ever be free (verse) My car
broke down, just out of town It got towed in, but it's broke again it
would be: Oh, woe is me, can't you see Woe is me, will I ever be free
My car broke down, just out of town It got towed in, but it's broke
again The same goes for the chorus. Again, if you are creative, do it
however you want. But for a new songwriter, this gives you some guidelines
to scratch out and start carving out your new creation. One more thing,
do not make the notes to the melody so high that your fans cannot sing
along. We are certainly all not Stevie Wonder.
The
Various Countries - A Rant About Country Music
It is no secret that over the past couple decades country music has
struggled with it's identity far more than any other genre in the industry.
At this point nobody can really claim to be a country music fan without
being questioned what kind of country fan? The answers being seemingly
endless, I've broken them down into a few main categories (but really,
there could be so many more).
